Global TV Tech Buzz: Make It A Very Crafty Digital Christmas

Here we go, all of a sudden the switch has been flipped and the crush of Christmas is upon us.

This week a few things you need some planning to accomplish, so knock them off your list quickly and you can relax and soak up the rest of the awesomeness of the season.

CHRISTMAS CARDS AND PRINTABLES

If you didn’t buy boxes of Christmas cards on Boxing Day last year, why not try making your own cards this year?

Search for “free Christmas card printables” online and you will find all sorts of themes and templates to use for Christmas cards. Simply download them, drop in your own family photos, and then print them off at London Drugs, WalMart, Superstore, or wherever. Scribble a note on the back, slap on a stamp and you have instant postcards!

Free Printables” is a very popular online term. There are all sorts of great graphical goodies you can download and print off free from copyright. At Halloween, it’s handy for pumpkin carving templates. At Christmas you can find things like gift tags, cards, invites, and Star Wars snowflake templates :)

BLURB

We take more pictures than any other generation in the history of the world. Yet they just sit on Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, or our phones. This is the best time of year to take your photos and make something with them.

Blurb is a great book making service that will let you collect family memories in photo books, tell the family history, or even let you self publish your novel.

The greatest Christmas gift I ever gave was the year I asked my grandmother for our family’s recipes. She didn’t think they were anything special, they were just cut from the newspapers of her youth, but they were/are the tastes that mean so much. So she got out her scone, chocolate chip cookie, and stuffing recipes and I printed them with collections of family feasting photos. That year she gave one to everyone for Christmas, and now, despite her passing away 2 years ago, we still have her recipes at Christmas.

If you’d like to win a $35 coupon to make your own Blurb book, enter at the bottom of this post, and one winner will be chosen.

ETSY

If you’re not good at the Martha Stewart craftiness, it’s easy to find people who do have the skills online. Etsy is a huge online marketplace of artisans and crafty folks. The finds are unique, handmade, and some are even customizable. If a one-of-a-kind personalized gift needs to find it’s way under your tree this year, get on it this week so it can be made and mailed in time.

While you’re doing all the crafting, you’ll need some background music. One of the most popular music apps is called Songza. You pick a mood and a custom playlist will be fired up – for free. Playlists are sorted with titles like Going Shopping, Vintage Christmas, and Holiday Songs for Colder Weather. I fired it up in the background at Halloween and it was brilliant.
